August 5, 2009
Justin
Carroll, of Concord, N.C., won his
second race of 2009 after battling
Matthew Linker in the Bandolero
Young Guns/Outlaw feature.
Carroll started fourth, and
quickly moved to second place
behind Linker. The two checked
out on the field, but Carroll
was able to take advantage after
Linker got sideways on lap 11
coming out of the fourth turn.
He secured the lead on lap 12,
and took the checkered flag on
lap 16 after the race was
shortened due to time
constraints.
Linker settled for second and
Evan Bell came home in third.
"It was a good race.
I have to thank Matt
(Linker) for racing me
clean. I have to say sorry
to Reid (Wilson) - we got
into it before the race and
we both apologized so I am
glad we got that out of the
way. I don’t
know where we are in points.
We’ll take the win and worry
about the points later.” |

Linker of Mount Pleasant, N.C., came out
on top in the Bandolero Young
Guns/Outlaw feature, but not before a
fierce battle with championship
contenders Justin Carroll and Austin
Langenstein.
Langenstein started third but quickly
took the lad where he remained until
Carroll slid passed on Lap 7, a move
that also opened the door for Linker to
take the second position.
Carroll remained in front until a
side-by-side battle on Lap 15 where
Linker took the lead coming off the
fourth turn. Carroll challenged
Linker multiple times in the closing
laps but was unsuccessful as Linker
drove on to claim his third victory of
the year.
Carroll crossed the line in second and
Langenstein settled for third in the
20-lap feature.

Bandolero Young Guns / Outlaws
By Tina Theriault

Tuesday, July 14th
After having competed in
only 20 other races in a Bandolero,
Austin Langenstein impressed the crowd
as he wheeled his #7 machine into the
Young Guns / Outlaws victory lane during
round six of the Summer Shootout.
Without any previous victories behind
the wheel of his Bandolero, Langenstein
displayed amazing potential as a
competitive Bandolero driver worthy of a
honorable mention. With his first win
under his belt and a solid third
position in the Young Guns championship
points standings, it is clear that
Langentsein’s rookie stripes are
beginning to fade away.
“It feels great to win – I’m speechless
actually,” admitted Langenstein. “We’ve
been knocking on the door for a couple
of races this year, but we finally
pulled it off tonight and I have to
thank everybody that has helped me get
here. Tonight, I was just trying to make
sure I hit my marks and didn’t overdrive
it. Plus, I just tried to keep doing
what I’ve been doing the whole year and
to be smart, and finally I pulled it
off.”
Flip-flopping positions
with Langenstein from the previous week,
Justin Carroll took home a second-place
finish that he was truly proud of.
“It’s a good feeling to come in second,
but I would have liked to have taken
home the win,” said Carroll. “But, you
know, it’s Austin’s [Langenstein’s] win
today and we won last week, so I guess
were switching over this time. Hopefully
we can come back and beat them next week
though.” |

Competitors Double the Excitement on
Double Points Night at Summer Shootout
July 7, 2009
Double Points Night meant double the
excitement for fans who witnessed
drivers battle it out for the top spot
in their divisions during round five of
the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's
Motor Speedway. Daniel Hemrick, Scott
Hensley and Justin Carroll were
among the night's feature winners |

Justin Carroll Takes Lead in Style;
Dominates Young Guns Feature |
By Ally Fulson

The Bandolero Young Guns feature at
Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) in the fifth
round of the Summer Shootout Series got
off to an exciting start as Justin
Carroll went three wide on the inside to
take the lead away from Reid Wilson and
Austin Langenstein on the first lap.
From there, Carroll held the lead for
the remainder of the 20-lap event to
bring home his first Summer Shootout
win, and, by our calculations, take over
the point lead from Evan Bell.
“We had a good race. Our car got really
tight and Austin Langenstein said he was
loose so it was really hard battling him
and we just barely pulled it off,”
explained Carroll. “We won the heat race
so I didn’t know how the start was going
to happen, but we ended up starting
third, so I guess that’s pretty good. I
was hoping we’d get a good finish like
this, and on double-points night,
hopefully this puts us in the points
lead.”
Although he wasn’t able to pass the
leader, Langenstein played the waiting
game in the second position.
“The car felt pretty good. We got a
little loose up off, but Justin and I
were pretty equal tonight. I’m pretty
happy with a second-place finish,” said
Langenstein. “I was hoping we’d have
some long green-flag runs and catch some
traffic because I thought I might have
been a little better on traffic, but
this top five in points with [Luke]
Demis second and Evan Bell leading
before this race will help us.”
Demis battled his Bandolero all night,
but was still able to hold on for a
third-place finish.
“In the heat race we finished second to
Austin Langenstein and the car was real
tight so we made an air pressure
adjustment,” said Demis. “Then, in the
race, the car was still tight, but we
had a good battle going there at the end
with the #97 [Bell] and the #12 [Annabeth
Barnes]. I’m proud of Justin though. We
got freight-trained in the beginning and
got all the way back to seventh, but we
made our way back up and since we’ve had
a top five in every race, hopefully we
will only drop to fourth in the points.” |

In the Young Guns event, Justin Carroll gave Matthew
Linker a run for his money. From the second position,
Carroll pressured Linker until the checkered flag flew.
“It was a tough run, but we ran hard and went for it,”
said Carroll. “It was close and we did what we could. We
are going to get a win out here soon.”
Earlier in the event, there was slight brush between
Carroll and third place Annabeth Barnes that was
amplified by onlookers after the race.
“We were just having a hard race and I don’t think we
made any contact, but if we did there’s no problem,”
said Carroll.
Barnes’ sentiments mirrored Carroll’s as she explained
the events as well.
“Yea, we both had competitive cars, but I really just
couldn’t run them [Linker and Carroll] down,” said
Barnes. “It was a lot of fun racing hard for it.”

Puzzling Race Finds Evan Bell in Victory Lane
Bandolero Young Guns / Outlaws
Elgin Traylor
LegendsNation.com Correspondent
Racing can sometimes leave you scratching your
head, wondering what happened. The Bandolero
Young Guns / Outlaws feature was one of those
races. A clean start through the first two turns
looked to be a promising start to the night, but
a scuffle in the third turn changed the
completion of the race. When it was all settled,
Evan Bell went to victory lane for the second
time this season.
“It feels awesome,” said Bell. “It’s our second
win in the Shootout and it’s really nice. We
needed this win for the points race.”
Bell was in the middle of the first-lap
three-wide scramble, but escaped with no
trouble. Justin Carroll, however, got swept up
in the mess and went to the back because of the
effort.
“The 97 (Bell) turned up on me at the start of
the race,” said Carroll. “I am not sure why he
did it. I never touched him and I have never
wrecked him in the past. They put us too the
rear after saying it was a complete restart. I
am not sure why we had to go to the back. We
still came back and got a good finish.”
Bell knew he was in a tough spot. He admitted
that he needed to keep his line to avoid causing
a bigger mess.
“I got pinched off a little bit on the first lap
and I could have backed off,” explained Bell.
“It was just as packed in behind me. I couldn’t
go anywhere but straight.”
The strange-themed race continued as Matt Linker
ran into the backstretch wall while running
third, taking him out of the event. Linker had
won the last two races.
The bizarre events did not stop there as point
leader Austin Langenstein began losing power and
dropped back out of the top three. He would end
up finishing 11th.
At the finish, it was Bell besting Annabeth
Barnes, Luke Demis, Carroll and Reid Wilson.
“It was so tough out there tonight,” said
Barnes. “We started seventh and that first lap
was so crazy with cars going everywhere. I saw
Justin (Carroll) get taken out in it and that
made me sad because he is one of my pals. We had
such a fast car and I owe it all to my dad. We
would still be at the beach right now if it was
not for him.”

Round One |
June 9, 2009
By Elgin Traylor
It’s a new year and the Bandolero Young
Guns look to be one of the more
interesting divisions at this year’s
Summer Shootout. Looking at the roster
of drivers, it’s almost safe to say that
a different driver could go to victory
lane each week. The first one out of
the gates was Buford, Georgia’s Evan
Bell, who wasn’t shy about admitting he
got a great advantage early in the race.
“I did some of the work, but I didn’t do
it all,” said Bell. “The guys in the
front of me got bunched up and I got
around and got away from them. It made
us look good. I am just really happy to
win on opening night of the Summer
Shootout.”
Bell has been absent from the Summer
Shootout for close to two seasons. It
was very special for him to return and
go to victory lane. “It’s hard
to say how I feel,” added Bell.
“We haven’t raced up here in two years,
so it really means a lot to come up here
and win. We led all the laps
tonight and I really don’t know what
else to say other then I am happy we
won.”
Austin Langenstein used a late-race
yellow to grab a second-place finish.
The local driver from Concord (NC) was
pleased with his run as well.
“The car was a tick loose, but we still
ran pretty good,” said Langenstein.
“Everyone wants to win anytime they
race, but a second-place finish is a
good way to start out the Summer
Shootout.”
The current National Points leader in
the Young Gun division finished third
after starting deep in the field.
Justin Carroll is going to be one of the
contenders for this year’s Shootout
championship.
“We had to avoid a big cluster
of cars at the beginning of the race and
during the heat race,” said Carroll.
“We started way back in 14th and I am
real happy that we came all the way up
to finish in the top three.”
Carroll ran like a seasoned
veteran as he knew a solid finish was
better then taking a chance at victory
and losing a dozen spots.
“The car was good, but I didn’t
want to push the issue or try to wreck
anybody to get up to the front,” added
Carroll. “This is a good start and
we’ll look to do better next week.”

Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth
week of Thursday Thunder
featured added excitement from
brimming Bandolero car counts as
an influx of competitors make
their way to the Speedway for
this weekend's Bandolero
Nationals.
Austin Langenstein guided the
Young Guns to the green flag,
but Matthew Linker made an early
pass for the lead. Appearing in
his second feature race of the
evening, Matthews quickly closed
on Linker's bumper with Justin
Carroll in tow. Linker began
adding to his lead as Carroll
passed Matthews, but a caution
bunched the field entering the
second half of the feature.
Linker maintained the advantage
on the restart with Matthews
playing chase, but a last-lap
collision allowed pole-holder
Langenstein to emerge from the
traffic as the winner.
